1, what are internal styles?
The Internal Martial Arts -- Xing Yi, Tai Chi, and Ba Gua -- are Traditional Chinese fighting styles. The emphasis of all the internal styles is on the development of internal power (Qi), at the same time as training one's physical abilities. Some people call these arts "soft-Kungfu", or "Nei Jia"(Nei means internal; Jia means family or style). Traditionally, in China, only these three styles were recognized as internal.
2, what is the differece between internal and
external styles?
Internal styles emphasize on internal power; external styles focus on muscular strength.
Internal styles develop soft power; external styles focus on hard physical force.
Internal styles are developed within the Chinese Daoist Martial Arts community; most external styles are Buddhist in origin.
Internal styles can be practiced at any age; external styles, for the most part, can be practiced only at a younger age.

From mainland China, Master Yang had the good fortune to be born into a family devoted to the martial arts. His first teacher was his grandfather, a grandmaster of Internal Styles and a student of Zhang Zhankui, the founder of Xingyi-Bagua Palm. His uncle, another of Master Yang`s earliest teachers, was a student of grandmaster Chen Zhaokui, the son of Chen Fake the legendary master who first brought Chen Taichi from Chen village to Beijing. From this training, begun at the age of 8, Master Yang went on to study the Internal Martial Arts(Hebei style Xing Yi, Cheng style Ba Gua and Chen style Tai Chi) from many Chinese masters, including Fu Jinling, Sun Dalai, Fu Zhoubo, Ma Hong, and Zhang Changtai. At the same time, Master Yang complimented his martial training with Daoist Meditation and Qi Gong under the tutelage of such well-known masters as Yang Meijun, the grandmaster of Wild-Goose Qigong, Hu Jinling, the grandmaster and founder of Bao Pin Qigong and Li Zhihe, the grandmaster of Potential-Ability Development Qigong. Master Yang has a university degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Herbology and Acupuncture) from the University of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Tianjin, and is a certified Qi Gong teacher, the certificate having been issued in 1992 by the Zhineng Qigong Research Association of Tianjin. In 1988, Master Yang began to teach martial arts and Qi Gong at the Technical Institute of Tianjin and in other communities. He now resides in Montreal, where he established the Centre for Wudang Internal Martial Arts and Qi Gong in 2001.
